Mariachi Texas
is a traditional Mexican mariachi musical group. It is available for all
special celebrations and receptions. The group also specializes in playing
the liturgy of the Holy Mass in Spanish for Weddings, Quincianeras, and
Anniversaries.
History: The
group first organized in late 2003 as a non-profit musical ministry of St.
Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church in Austin, Texas. It played its first
mariachi style Holy Mass on the second Sunday of April, 2004, under the name
of Mariachi San Ignacio, where it continues to play the 1:00 PM Spanish Mass
on the second and fourth Sunday of every month. Mariachi Texas branched off
Mariachi San Ignacio in July, 2005, as its professional secular
group specializing in traditional Jalisco style mariachi music.
Membership:
While the core and basis of Mariachi Texas is composed of the founding
members of Mariachi San Ignacio, Mariachi Texas encourages, but does not
require membership in Mariachi San Ignacio of its professional musicians,
nor is there a Spanish language requirement for membership in either group.
However, applications for available openings in Mariachi Texas require an
audition of the applicant’s musical skills.
